I am currently in a team making a game. We are currently lacking behind due to the lack of understanding of the visual language. The floors and ceilings are made like this because the goal is to make square panel designs that will easily connect to the other panels at their own category of course with their design. All the level designers have to do is put them in the way they want to like a jigsaw puzzle but without worrying if the pieces will connect because everything should connect.
